This guide is all about planning that dream party—whether you’re in your cozy living room or out in your backyard jungle—with loads of DIY hacks, budget-savvy tips, and yes, free printable goodies (because girl, we don’t gatekeep around here). So, grab your coffee, kick off your shoes, and let’s throw the birthday bash of the year!
Picking the Perfect Party Spot
“Indoors vs. Outdoors?”
We moms love a good challenge, and choosing where to host your party is the first big one. Whether you’re transforming your living room into Elmo’s Playhouse or your backyard into Big Bird’s Playground, here’s how to win the venue game without breaking a sweat. Small space? No worries! With a little rearranging (a.k.a. stuffing furniture into other rooms temporarily), your living room becomes the stage for the cutest toddler takeover ever.

Drape colorful streamers from wall to wall, use Sesame Street balloons for extra cheer, and don’t forget the all-important “123 Amanda’s Street” sign on the wall. You can even print out character cutouts (free resources coming soon, hold that excitement!) and tape them around the room to create a full-on Sesame vibe.
Here’s a hot tip, Use a plastic tablecloth with primary colors (red, blue, yellow) as your floor cover under the cake table. Not only is it photo-friendly, but you’ll thank yourself later when icing lands everywhere. If the weather’s on your side, outdoor parties are where it’s at. Set up a simple canopy or rent a bounce house for that extra wow-factor.

Hang string lights, attach paper lanterns in bold colors, and get those DIY cardboard street signs out! Oh, and chalk art? Total hit. Outdoor space gives you room for more mess, more fun, and more kids—so don’t hold back on games like “Oscar’s Recycle Relay” or “Elmo Says.” You’re officially running the coolest street in town.

Let Them Eat Cake! (Or Cupcakes, We Don’t Judge)
A Sesame Street party without an Elmo cake? That’s like a birthday without balloons. But if custom cakes have your wallet sobbing, don’t worry—I’ve got options. Want that showstopper moment? Make a basic sheet cake and top it with buttercream faces of Elmo, Cookie Monster, or Big Bird. You don’t have to be a pro—just use circle pans, colored icing, and candy for facial features.

Think Oreos for eyes and marshmallows for noses. Baking not your thing? Hit up your local grocery store and ask for a plain cake with colored frosting. Then decorate it yourself with character toppers or toys you already have at home. Boom. Pinterest-worthy cake, minus the stress.
